1 DAY SAILING TASTER

The Academy Sailing 1 Day Sailing Taster is perfect as a one-day experience, as a gift for yourself or another, or to discover whether sailing large yachts is as good as you hope it is. Spoiler alert – it is.

At Academy Sailing, we want you to love sailing. It’s our passion, and we love seeing the smiles on faces when the sails go up, the engine switches off and the yacht gently heels as the wind fills the sails. The only sound is the water as the yacht powers its way along. “Congratulations, you are now sailing” are words we enjoy saying.

What to Expect on the Day

​

The day starts with a relaxed introduction to the yacht over a cup of tea or coffee, followed by issuing of equipment. We then get you involved in preparing the yacht for departure and head out onto the water. The focus of the day is on enjoyment and confidence building.

​​

This is a gentle introduction to sailing, with no pressure and no hair-raising weather expeditions. Everything is aimed at making your first experience of yacht sailing relaxed, welcoming and fun.

Your First Time at the Helm

 

Guests are invited to take the wheel under close supervision and support from your RYA instructor. You will help hoist the sails and experience sailing for the first time.

Given these are large yachts weighing many tonnes, it’s a memorable experience to feel the power of the wind being harnessed so smoothly, using a form of transport older than history books.

​

Food and Onboard Comfort

 

A delicious lunch is served on board, with dietary preferences catered for where possible. Tea, coffee and snacks are available throughout the day.

​

We want you to enjoy yourselves and come back for more. Whether you are trying sailing for the first time or buying this experience as a gift, this is a relaxed and memorable way to discover yacht sailing.

​

From our base in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, we are close to London and easy to reach from across the east of England.

​

Requirements

​

  • Minimum age of 12.

  • All Under 18's to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • No sailing experience required.

​
