Pre-Course Requirements

• • Minimum age of 16. All Under 18's to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • RYA Competent Crew qualification recommended - or you are competent to this level on sailing yachts (not dinghies). This course is aimed to help you if you are rusty!

There are no hidden extra costs to any of our courses. Your course fee covers:-

• Accommodation (yacht has central heating throughout)

• All meals - delicious breakfasts, lunches and evening meals on board

Course Syllabus

​

By the end of your 1 or 2 day RYA Day Skipper Prep training with Academy Sailing you will have covered the following:-

​

• Refamiliarisation in yacht safety

• Prep the yacht for sea - including:-

  • Singling up all lines

  • Rigging lines to slip

  • Preparing the sails

  • Helping formulate undocking plan

• Knot practice

• Hoisting sails

• Dropping &  furling sails

• Tacking and gybing

• Helming

• Basic pilotage practice

• Introduction to chart plotters

• Tide management

• Anchoring and / or picking up mooring buoys

• Preparing yacht for docking / berthing - including;

  • Placing and tying fenders

  • Setting up bow, stern, and spring lines

• Closing down the yacht

The cost of both the 1 and 2 day courses are shown below against each available set of dates. There are absolutely no hidden extras. A non-refundable deposit reserves a place on your chosen course with the balance being due 7 weeks before the start of the course.
