Academy Sailing was started by husband and wife team, Andrew & Kathryn. Both have a passion for sailing and a real focus on delivering an outstanding quality of instruction. They are both proud of the fact that Academy Sailing is the only yacht sailing school in Essex that holds the world-renowned RYA accreditation. RYA training is the best - don't settle for less!

We genuinely care that you have a great experience with us. Aside from us feeling really good about that, we know it's what will bring you back and new people to us. That's why we make sure that our award-winning team of instructors are the very best you will find.  We pay our instructors better than any other school on the east coast and do so for a reason.  It's also why we take such care of our yacht Dream Odyssey.

We get asked what it's like aboard the Academy Sailing yacht Dream Odyssey, so we want to provide you with a bit of an insight here.

Dream Odyssey is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 39i Performance. The yacht is modern, well-equipped, and has 'performance sailing' specification. The performance aspect means a larger sailing rig, and deeper keel generating more speed!

Dream Odyssey really is set up for comfort and not only for the courses we offer but also the sailing holidays we provide. With four large heated cabins including the saloon area, Dream Odyssey provides extremely comfortable sleeping accommodation and has central heating throughout.

Dream Odyssey also has a very comfortable saloon (lounge) and galley (kitchen) area for relaxing and socialising, whilst the galley is perfect for preparing all the delicious freshly cooked food we provide.

Academy Sailing's yacht Dream Odyssey

Dream Odyssey has central heating throughout the boat. She has solar panels, a wind generator, an inverter, and with a large battery capacity, there is enough power for all our guests needs. The cockpit area has a full enclosure so this becomes another area for socialising of an evening even when the weather can't be relied upon. Given the extra large fridge on board, you are welcome to bring beverages on board to enjoy of an evening.

Dream Odyssey​ has state of the art navigation equipment, and all other systems you would expect on a yacht of this standard. Dream Odyssey also has a bow-thruster meaning we can teach students how to use this feature ahead of any charter holidays they have planned.

On board we have outstanding quality Gill GoreTex (waterproof and breathable) sailing jackets and salopettes and top-of-the-range Crewsaver lifejackets.

Dream Odyssey is always kept well-stocked with food for delicious meals, and of course plenty of snacks with teas and coffees.  The boss (Mrs B...!) typically bakes a homemade cake and even fresh bread for courses - nothing ever goes to waste!

We have made a big effort to provide premium sailing courses that stand out from the rest. We really want everyone to enjoy their time with us as we know this is what brings customers back. We feel good when our customers are happy.
