RYA Coastal Skipper; Burnham to Solent
Extended Course: Saturday 12th to Friday 18th June 2027
3 Spot(s) left
Description
We are scheduling just two RYA Coastal Skipper courses for 2027, offering a rare opportunity to complete a genuine extended coastal passage rather than operating from a single base. The first travels from Burnham-on-Crouch, across the Thames Estuary and along the south coast to Lymington, with the second making the return passage. Both courses begin at 5pm on the Saturday evening with passage planning, followed by a further six days of course time. This extended format provides greater flexibility around the weather and creates a challenging and rewarding course designed to stretch aspiring Coastal Skippers. The RYA Coastal Skipper course builds on the navigation, passage-planning and boat-handling skills developed at Day Skipper level. It is designed to develop the techniques, experience and judgement required to skipper a cruising yacht safely on coastal passages. To join this course, you should already have practical sailing ability to RYA Day Skipper standard and be at RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore theory standard. Join Dream Odyssey at Burnham Yacht Harbour, Essex, at 5pm on Saturday 12 June 2027, when passage planning will begin. The course finishes in Lymington around 4pm on Friday 18 June 2027. TRANSPORT Burnham Yacht Harbour and the marina in Lymington are both within walking distance of their local railway stations, with good onward connections. WHAT IS INCLUDED Your fee includes use of the yacht, tuition from an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor, marina fees during the passage, fuel and gas, accommodation aboard, use of waterproof jackets and salopettes, lifejackets, breakfasts, lunches, snacks, tea and coffee, and evening meals aboard on four evenings. On two evenings, the crew will eat ashore at their own expense, choosing together where and when to do so. There will be plenty of lovely places to choose from along the route. EARLY BOOKING AND PAYMENT As we are running only two Coastal Skipper courses in 2027, we have opened these places for early booking. We are not collecting the usual deposit at this stage, but you can secure your place now for £25. The £25 forms part of your £300 deposit, leaving £275 to pay in November 2026. A further installment of £300 is due 19 weeks before departure, with the final balance payable 10 weeks before departure.
